Laura Schmidt

Laura is not sure when, how or why she began to draw, but oil painting began in college.

Always a challenge, inevitably, for each drawing, the goal is to look and work until something

emerges and holds together on its own.

She works with line. Usually in graphite, She attempts to draw someone or something

representationally or with accuracy. She wants line to have life and honesty. Patterns, texture

and movement as abstract elements become as important as the subject. This pursuit

translated into using oil paint as a medium and exploring the same principles with paint and

color.
