Candace Winter Artwork on Display at Kent Public Library

Artist Statement
Candace Winter was born into a family of artists and has been creating art since she could hold a crayon. Her work has always been about bold color, texture and telling a visual story. As a teaching artist, she has visited many schools throughout Westchester making art papers with young students in a style similar to that of children’s book illustrator Eric Carle. Using this paper the children make incredible inspiring art. She takes all of these creations made by many hands and arranges them together whimsical murals. As a result of this process, there are always many bits and pieces of beautiful handmade papers left over. Seeing the passion from all of the young artists in these “scraps”, Candace could not bear to throw them away. It was all of these precious pieces that lead her to discover this new way to collage.
