Joseph Pizzuti

Joseph Pizzuti is a self-taught oil painter in the Hudson Valley. He taught himself to paint as a hobby years ago to help him deal with the stresses of an onerous occupation. He was inspired early on to paint bucolic scenes of the Hudson Valley. He often drives for hours without direction to find and photograph subjects to paint at home. However, painting in a poorly ventilated room may have contributed to a cancer that forced him to stop painting for several years on the advice of his doctor. He started painting again with doctor approved water mixable oil paints (no more hazardous chemicals) while he was confined at home by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now he is blessed to be retired and cancer-free.

Susannah Leighton

My creative life began early, at the knee of my colorful and artistic grandmother. She taught me to knit, to sculpt in clay and to embroider in gold—all these decades later I continue to thrive in those media and many more. My greatest love is painting in oils. More recently I’ve become fluent in watercolor, and drawing always serves as a primary underlying force in my work. I can paint just about anything, and often get commissioned to make images I wouldn’t otherwise choose. But my favorite work captures the spiritually rich landscape of the Hudson Valley—I will never tire of calling this part of the world my home.
